Marius Johannes Janssen was born in The Hague on July 4, 1885, and passed away in Rotterdam on December 11, 1957. He was a painter, photographer, and (above all) etcher. After living in various places such as Bergen op Zoom, Arnhem, and Utrecht, he worked in Hillegersberg from 1926 onward (and in Rotterdam from 1935). He is known for his cityscapes from all over the country, in which church towers often play a dominant role.
