Very special work of Paul Marcus: Media artist, painter, The Hague art circle Comes from the collection of the municipality of The Hague, The Netherlands Paul Marcus (b. 1936, Bernitt) Paul Marcus is a German-Dutch painter and media artist known for his vibrant and expressive works. Born in Bernitt, Germany, in 1936, he pursued studies in Germanistics and history in the former East Germany (DDR). In 1957, he was expelled from the country after refusing to adopt West German citizenship. Following his departure, Marcus traveled extensively, undertaking various jobs such as sailor and factory worker. In 1965, he settled in The Hague, Netherlands, where he became a Dutch citizen. There, he studied painting under artists Miep de Leeuwe and Willy Rieser. Marcus has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally, including in Switzerland, Spain, France, and Germany. His artistic repertoire encompasses oil paintings, collages, and mixed-media pieces. Marcus's works are characterized by bold colors and dynamic compositions, often reflecting modern and abstract styles. Several of his pieces are part of the collection of the Municipality of The Hague, and he has been associated with the Hague Art Circle.
