Arend Hendriks (1901-1951). From 1916 to 1920, Hendriks took drawing lessons at the Rijkskweekschool in Haarlem, where he obtained his L.O. certificate in hand drawing. In 1922, he obtained his M.O. at the Hague drawing institute.[3] In the 1920s, Hendriks regularly joined the art classes of the art pedagogue H.P. Bremmer. Some of the other young artists who also frequently attended were Jan Lodeizen, Willem Mühlstaff and Rudolf Bremmer. Hendrik's work shows kinship with that of Rudolf Bremmer. Both accentuate muscles, veins and skin imperfections in their portraits.[4] Hendriks was closely involved in the artist community. He was a member of Pulchri Studio (where he later became secretary), Arti et Amicitiae, the Vereeniging tot Bevordering der Grafische Kunst and the artists' association de Brug. Hendriks' skills as an artist did not go unnoticed. At 22, he had one of his first exhibitions, at art dealer Walrecht in The Hague.[5] The art publicist Just Havelaar called Hendriks a talent who showed imagination and character with his very realistic work.[6] From 1933, he was a teacher at the Hague Drawing Institute. He taught Thijs Mauve, Gerard Lutz, Willem Minderman, Henk Munnik and Ru van Rossem
