Jaroslawa Dankowa (Sofia, 1925 - 1999) Jaroslawa Petrowa Dankowa, also known as Jaroslawa van den Broek-Dankowa (Sofia, 16 February 1925 - The Hague, 12 February 1999) was a Bulgarian-born Dutch sculptor. After her grammar school education, Dankowa went to study pharmacy in Prague, but fled to the Netherlands in 1948. She trained as a visual artist at the Free Academy in The Hague, where she began her studies in 1958. Her teacher was Rudi Rooijackers. She worked in Prague, London and in the Netherlands in Rotterdam, Voorburg and The Hague. She was a member of the Haagsche Kunstkring and Pulchri Studio. In several Dutch cities there are sculptures by Dankowa in public spaces. Of her sculptures in The Hague, the 1988 Indisch Monument is the best known. With this sculpture, Dankowa expressed the suffering of the East Indies war victims. A very nice bronze sculpture on granite base.
